PUCL Bihar welcomes Bihar SHRC order directing police to submit a report on recent incident of brutal burder

A tragic incident in Patna has raised serious concerns about child safety and human rights. Roshni
Kumari, a 10-year-old girl, went missing after leaving her home to deliver milk to a neighbour. When she did not return, her family searched for her and later informed the police. The next day, her body was found wrapped in a blanket in a narrow lane near her home under the Bypass Police Station area. Police officials stated that the body had multiple injury marks, indicating a brutal assault before her death.
Following media reports, Aarav Kandoi, a law student at Central University of Punjab and an Intern at PUCL Bihar, filed a complaint before the Bihar State Human Rights Commission (BSHRC). The complaint highlighted the violation of the child’s right to life, dignity, and safety. It also raised concerns about the protection of children and the need for an action in such cases. Taking the matter seriously, the Bihar State Human Rights Commission registered the complaint filed by Aarav Kandoi and issued a notice to the Superintendent of Police, Patna. The Commission has directed the police to submit a detailed report within 8 – weeks.
PUCL Bihar welcomes the Commission’s action and hopes that a fair and speedy investigation will bring justice to the victim and her family.
