PUCL Petition on Art. 370

Following the abrogation on 5th August, 2019, of Art. 370 of the Constitution of India which provided for the Special Status for Jammu & Kashmir, the People's Union for Civil Liberties decided to file a PIL, challenging this action as unconstitutional, against the law and violation of the assurance given to the Kashmiri people under various Accords. 

Today, 14th Novemebr, 2019, the 5-judge bench of the Supreme Court, hearing the batch of Petitions challenging abrogation of Art. 370, decided to include the PUCL PIL as a part of the Batch, as it raised many important constitutional issues and challenges. The SC also issued notice to the Government of India and asked the GOI to file a reply. The Batch of writ petitions has been posted for further hearing on Dec 10th 2019.
